  • Attachment Theory can lead to raised eyebrows when we say it is the foundation of our practice. Plagued by misconceptions, some mistakenly believe this perspective requires us to accept ideas and behaviour that go against our values. In reality, Attachment Theory is not about accepting what we deem unacceptable— it‘s about understanding the way we make sense of ourselves and the world around us.

    Attachment Theory helps us answer:

    • why people (including ourselves) behave in certain ways

    • why we label the behaviour as acceptable or unacceptable

By understanding why, we can begin to understand others, our own behaviour, and where it all fits in within the context of our lives and relationships. Through this process, our clients obtain information needed to determine how to make better decisions, approach relationships, and respond to challenges. In our ~20 years of experience, understanding (not acceptance) opens up our minds to the conditions necessary for positive change.

  • Each of our counsellors specialize in anxiety, stress management, and relationships issues (work/personal). Please take a look at their individual bios and book a complimentary call to determine whether or not they are a good fit. We would love to work with you, but it is more important that you feel an authentic connection with your counsellor. If we're not a fit, we can recommend other experienced practitioners in the area.

  • If you are researching counselling, therapy, or mental health, it likely means you are in need of and ready to make changes that will have positive outcomes in your life. High-performing individuals are typically goal and action-oriented. Which means, once they are committed, they take the actions and do what it takes to achieve their goals. In order to develop an action plan that is right for you, we begin the process with a candid conversation to uncover the big picture and gain a healthy understanding of your current status regarding relationships, objectives, priorities, and obstacles. We never coerce you into doing anything, and it is paramount that you are on board and feel ownership over your treatment plan. Only then can therapy be successful.

  • If you notify us within 48 hours, there will be no fee to cancel. That being said, our counsellors understand that emergencies happen and days don’t always go as planned. In extenuating circumstances, please email your counsellor directly so we can reschedule or figure something out together.

  • Each session is roughly 50 minutes, and some clients only need a few sessions to feel significant improvement. On average, our clients come in for 6-8 sessions in total. Some see us monthly while others prefer to join us weekly. We have many long-term clients who prefer monthly support, sometimes for years, even after overcoming the initial challenges that caused them to seek out therapy. Some clients come in for couples counselling and transition to individual sessions. Some of our clients come in for caregiver support, receive resources, and move on within 3 sessions while other caregivers continue with us long term due to the nature of the care they are providing. It all depends on what you are looking to achieve. Remember, you are always in charge of your treatment plan.

  • We accept all major credit cards through our secure platform. If you prefer to pay via e-transfer, please connect with your counsellor to discuss options.

  • Watermark specializes in providing evidence-based therapy and mental health services for driven people who are ready to make a change. High performers are adept at overcoming incredible challenges, and we deeply empathize and have helped those who feel unsettled when certain parts of life feel out of order. Leaning wholly into attachment theory, the heart of our practice is rooted in the principle that our health is profoundly influenced by our relationships -- the relationships we have with our loved ones, our livelihood, and ourselves. We believe success in therapy is achieved when there is an honest and authentic connection between the therapist and client. As such, we seek to build trust and provide our clients with a safe space where they will never feel judged. We work with our clients to create a shared understanding of the current challenges and the best path forward with regards to treatment.

The best time to start therapy was yesterday. The next best time is now.

The safety of a therapeutic relationship can impact people in profound ways. Don't get stuck in a loop wondering what it's like to feel better. It's time to find out for yourself.
